Today, I spoke to the South East Organ Donation Services Team as part of their team meeting day. It was an opportunity for these specialist nurses to hear a receipient’s story and understand the difference that their incredible work makes helping donor families with their decisions.
Transplant Medicine requires many parts and these nurses are a vital element in that clinical chain. They have to be sensitive, mindful, compassionate, understanding and accurate in everything they do as they guide families through the process of donating a loved ones’ organs.
It was a privilege to speak today and feel like I am giving back for all of the care and treatment I have received on my transplant journey. Only by sharing stories and experience in different settings can we help each other improve, inform and give thanks.
The setting for today was the beautiful South Hill Park building and grounds which were made even more special by an art show currently running called ‘Infinite Reflections’. The artist is called Leigh Ferris and she is also a Specialist Nurse in Organ Donation so the artwork is inspired by her work in that field. Every piece she has created is incredible and the meaning made even more special by the consideration of what has inspired it.
A very rich and fulfilling day. I hope to do more medical setting talks in the future ❤️💛❤️
