Speaking about organ donation was not something I ever planned to do. It grew slowly, shaped by experience, reflection, and a deep sense that staying silent didn’t do my experience the honour it so richly deserves.
Organ donation isn’t just a topic I talk about — it’s something that changed my life. It sits quietly behind everything I do, from the opportunities I’ve had to the future I’m able to imagine. Over time, I realised that with that gift comes a responsibility: to speak honestly, thoughtfully, and with utter respect.
I speak about organ donation because stories matter. Facts and figures are also important, but they don’t always capture the human reality behind them. Organ donation isn’t abstract. It involves real people, real families, and decisions made in moments of profound difficulty. By sharing my story, I hope to help others see the human side — the compassion, the courage, and the ripple effects of choices made.
My purpose isn’t to persuade or pressure anyone. It’s to inform, to humanise, and to create space for conversation. Many people support organ donation but feel unsure how it works, or uncomfortable talking about it. I want to help make those conversations feel more natural, more grounded, and less intimidating.
I also speak to show that resilience is possible, even when life takes an unexpected turn. Organ donation and transplantation are not simple journeys. They involve uncertainty, adjustment, and learning to live with a new normal. But they also show what can happen when compassion, care, belief, selflessness and medical expertise come together.
At the heart of everything I share is gratitude — for donors, for donor families, for healthcare professionals, and for the opportunities that exist because of them. Speaking is one way I honour that gift and keep the conversation going.
