About

Bio

Hi, I’m Dave and I’m passionate about raising awareness on the power of organ donation and transplant, and the difference it can make. I started this site to make it easier for everyone to understand organ and tissue donation, encourage people to register their decision because a small decision can have a huge impact.

My interest comes from not only my experiences as a transplant recipient, but the fact that my brother has also received a heart transplant. Organ donation has touched my family in so many ways. Now, I focus on sharing clear, practical information, inspiring stories, and tips that make registering simple and meaningful.

Everyone has the potential to give life, regardless of age or past health conditions, and I want to help people make that choice with confidence. I am a member of Share Your Wishes – a group of like-minded people who encourage people to be organ donors by showing the difference it can make. I am also a Committee Member of the Harefield Transplant Club, a registered charity that exists to improve the quality of life for people at Harefield Hospital who are pre- or post- heart and/or lung transplant.

When I’m not writing, speaking or raising awareness, you’ll usually find me playing a musical instrument, going to gigs or enjoying lazy river walks with my partner.

If you’re here to make a difference, explore the site, read the stories, and take two minutes to register as an organ donor—you might save someone’s life tomorrow.

My Journey: From Diagnosis To New Heart

In my twenties, I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a hereditary condition that thickens the heart muscle over time. Medication and procedures kept my symptoms at bay for a few years, but life took its toll: bereavement, family responsibility, and declining health.

By my mid-forties, my condition had worsened to the point where my only option was a heart transplant — just as my older brother had faced three years before me. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a donor and their family, I received my transplant in 2019 after weeks of waiting on the urgent list.

Today, I live an active and healthy life that simply wouldn’t have been possible without organ donation and the kindness of my amazing donor.

Why I Speak

My experience offers a real-world perspective on:

  • What it means to live with a life-threatening condition.
  • The practical and emotional realities of waiting for and receiving a transplant.
  • The vital importance of sharing your wishes about organ donation with family.
  • Living with a heart transplant.

Through my talks, I aim to help everyone see organ donation for what it truly is: a real act of kindness that transforms and saves lives — just like mine.

My Message

Since May 2020, England has operated an opt-out system for organ donation — yet families still need to know your wishes. Starting those conversations early can make all the difference.

By sharing my story, I hope to encourage openness, challenge misconceptions, and help everyone understand the power of compassion and choice through transplant.

Please contact me if I can share my experiences to inspire and educate your audience.
